Quick chat, from any app
A small black tab sits on the edge of your screen. Hover it, ask something, and carry on. It grows to show how the answer is going.
Mighty is a chat app like ChatGPT, except the AI runs right on your Mac. So there are no message limits, no subscription, and nobody else reading your conversations.
No limits
Most cloud AI apps count your messages. Use up your share and you wait, or you pay. Mighty runs on your Mac, so there is nothing to count.
Private
Most AI apps send every message to a company’s computers. Mighty doesn’t send your chats anywhere. The AI reads your questions, documents and photos right on your Mac, and they stay there.
Click the Wi-Fi icon, then ask Mighty something.
Getting started
No Terminal, no accounts, no hunting for the right AI. Mighty sets itself up, then looks at your Mac and suggests the AI that fits it best.
One file, about 2.6 GB, with your first AI already inside.
Drag Mighty into Applications and open it. macOS asks you to confirm once, and Mighty shows you how.
Tell Mighty your name, then type anything. It picks an AI that suits your Mac.
The first time you open it, Mighty may need the internet for a few minutes to fetch its engine (a one-time download of about 500 MB). After that, it works offline.
Characters
A character changes how the AI talks to you: shorter, slower, friendlier, tougher. Pick one for each chat, or let Auto choose for every message.
Ask all five: Should I paint my bedroom dark green?
Example answers, written to show each character’s style.
Picks the right character for each message you send.
Answer a few questions and pick a look. Mighty writes the personality.
A character is a tiny file. Send it to a friend, and it opens in Mighty.
And more
A small black tab sits on the edge of your screen. Hover it, ask something, and carry on. It grows to show how the answer is going.
Drop a file into the chat and ask about it. It is read on your Mac and never uploaded.
Put two to six characters in one room and watch them talk to you, and to each other.
Saved so far, compared with a cloud AI. (An example.)
Mighty counts everything it writes, and shows what the same chats would have cost on a cloud AI. It is an estimate, and it says so.
Every shortcut can be changed in Settings.
New versions download quietly. When one is ready, a Restart button appears, and your answer is never interrupted.
The real app

A chat, with the answer written out.
Honestly
The AI inside Mighty is smaller than the giant ones in the cloud. For everyday work it is great. For the very hardest problems, a cloud AI can still do better. A Mac with more memory can run a smarter one.
No. If you can send a text message, you can use Mighty. You type, it answers. Everything else is optional, and there is a short guide if you are curious.
Yes. Mighty is free to download and use, and so are the AI models inside it. There is no account and no subscription, because the AI runs on your own Mac instead of on a company’s servers.
Only for setup and updates: to download Mighty, to fetch its engine the first time you open it (about 500 MB), and to get extra AI models and new versions. Once it is set up, chatting works offline, because the AI lives on your Mac. The app download already includes a first AI model.
It feels like a chat app, but the AI runs on your Mac instead of in the cloud. That means no message limits, no subscription, and no one else reading your chats. The trade-off is that cloud AIs are bigger, so for the hardest questions they can still be sharper.
While Mighty writes an answer, your Mac works hard, the way it does when you export a video. Then it rests. Mighty unloads the AI from memory after a few quiet minutes, and a small meter in the sidebar shows what is in use.
Any Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. More memory means smarter AI: 8 GB runs quick, friendly models, and 16 GB or more runs noticeably smarter ones. Mighty looks at your Mac and suggests models that fit.
In a folder on your Mac, ~/Library/Application Support/Mighty, along with your characters, usage numbers and models. Nothing is uploaded. Delete that folder and Mighty forgets everything.
Apple only skips that step for apps whose makers pay $99 a year to have them reviewed, and Mighty isn’t one of them. You confirm once, and updates never ask again. Installing with the Terminal command skips the step entirely.
No. Mighty carries its own private copy of the engine and runs it on a port of its own. It never reads or writes your ~/.ollama folder, so the two sit side by side.
Free, private, and ready in a few minutes.
curl -fsSL https://downloads.rasmusbyskov.com/mighty/install.sh | bashA 7 MB download with no macOS security step. Mighty fetches its engine and a first AI model the first time it opens.
